Integration of healing techniques

When many of the Medical Universities and hospitals in the US have established traditional healing systems incorporating yoga, Tai Chi, Tibetan medicine and Ayurveda as a complementary adjunct treatment along with modern medicine, there is greater need for this kind of marrying of modern medicine and traditional healing systems in India

Dr.Gundu Rao(
Dr. Gundu Hirisave Rama Rao, Professor, Lillehei Heart Institute, Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA) from Mysore says more in this article
He spoke to SOM on his mission at the Windflower Spa & Resorts.

Accupressure techniques

Chi/qi/energy flows through the body via 14 primary meridians or channels. To strengthen the flow of qi,or remove blockages in the meridians, applying pressure with the finger just under the skin at certain specific points (called acupoints) along the channels. There are four to five hundred named acupoints along the meridians, some of which are associated with specific internal organs or organ systems

So basically all our organs are networked in a way other than the anatomical nervous system. Diseases occur when chi flow in this network is blocked. This can be unblocked by pressing some points on the body(accupressure points). Ancient people have already listed all the major acupressure points and is a big subject in its own.

I believe in this as it cures some simple problems like headache, indigestion, eye problems etc just by pressing a point on your palm or foot using a pen or just your finger. This is much better than consuming those main stream medicines for simple ailements and suffering side effects.

Accupressure points on palm:

Steps for accupressure(in its simplest way):
1. Find the region on your palm(or foot) based on which part of the body is aching from the diagram on the left.
2. Now try to narrow down within that region by pressing the points using a finer tip.
3. There will be pain at some point of your palm. Once you get the pain you can be sure you found the spot.
4. Next using a fine tip (like the back of the pen) press gently and then harder until the pain goes away.
5. The pain should go away and also the pain in the body part.

This is a very simple technique, more advanced techniques are below:

1. Fire cupping

2. Accupuncture (with painless needles)

3. More tools to realize accupressure in some form or the other is available:

Theramax

Application of accupressure for specific ailments:

1. Gas/indigestion/nausea

2. Blood pressure (high/low)

Experiences/suggestions welcome.
